Wesley Chapel is positioned at 28 10 43 N 82 21 2 W (28.178688, -82.350676). According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the CDP has a total region of 6.1 square miles (16 km2), of which 6.1 square miles (16 km2) is territory and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) (0.49%) is water.

Originally called Double Branch for the area's twin creeks, the improve was titled for the Methodist chapel that stood on the northwest corner of SR 54 and Boyette Road.

Since 2000, Wesley Chapel has grown rapidly.

Also as of July 2007, a new county park opened at the southwest corner of Boyette and Overpass roads. State Road 56 is presently slated to extend east from its current end at Bruce B.
