The town/city was established by Glenn Hammond Curtiss, "The Father of Naval Aviation", and James Bright, amid the famous "land boom" of the 1920s and was originally titled Country Club Estates.

It, along with other metros/cities in Dade County such as Coral Gables, Florida and Opa-locka, Florida, formed some of the first prepared communities in the state.

Shortly before to incorporation in 1926, the town/city was retitled after a spring positioned in the region which provided parts of Miami with fresh water until the mid-1990s.

Miami Springs is positioned at 25 49 11 N 80 17 28 W. According to the United States Enumeration Bureau, the town/city has a total region of 3.0 square miles (7.8 km2).

The sudden 1991 collapses of both Eastern Airlines and Pan American World Airways left many Miami Springs inhabitants unemployed and unable to afford living in the neighborhood.

Given that the businesses in Miami Springs had always relied upon the large disposable incomes of the employees of the large airline carriers, the bankruptcy of both corporations in the same year created a chain reaction, eventually causing many small businesses to close their doors.

Even with the closure of the airlines, from a residentiary standpoint, Miami Springs remained strong.

The town/city is often seen as blessedly isolated from the perceived turbulence of the rest of Miami-Dade County.

The Consulate-General of Bolivia in Miami is positioned in Suite 505 at 700 South Royal Poinciana Boulevard in Miami Springs. Curtiss Mansion is a Pueblo style home that belonged to town/city founder Glenn Curtiss.

Fair Haven Nursing Home is one of the earliest buildings in Miami Springs and is assembled in the pueblo style favored amid the initial development.

It was designated a Miami Springs Historic Site in 1984.
